Denise Woods

Denise Woods heads the firm's Employee Benefit Plan Audit practice. After an early start in oil and gas audit, Denise quickly recognized the potential of benefit plan audits as a growing field of specialization. She became an early advocate in that field, playing an integral part in the growth and success of Arthur Andersen LLP's benefit plan practice.

Warm and congenial, Denise brings the structure and confidence needed to improve plan management, ensure compliance and build efficient controls. She leads the firm's training efforts for the attest practice and has developed and taught benefit plan training both internally for Weinstein Spira and on a larger scale with AGN International. She also enjoys assisting clients by presenting at human resource niche conferences and meetings, guiding HR professionals through the audit process and other technical considerations.   

Denise takes an active role in the management of the firm. She is an innovative teacher, making her a superb coach and mentor to growing Weinstein Spira professionals and a resolute sounding board to her colleagues. 

After earning her BS in Accounting in 1994 from Texas A&M University, Denise moved to Houston where she started her career with Arthur Andersen LLP. In 2002, she joined KPMG and in 2006, she found her true home at Weinstein Spira. She is the firm's Director for employee benefit plan audits.

Denise and her husband, Michael, have two teen boys, Ryan and Connor. Whether she is gardening in her yard or wade fishing with her boys, Denise loves creating memories for her family and friends. She is a creative amateur photographer and a crafter extraordinaire.
